Finger Pointing – May 1st

1 May

Not only is today a Monday, but it’s also May 1st.  I can’t believe how fast time flies!  That to me is what makes this wonderful hobby of ours so important and rewarding.  We not only get the satisfaction of creating a unique piece of art with each layout we create, but we also our preserving our family memories.  The stories and feelings on a scrapbook page capture a wonderful (or not so wonderful) moment in time.  To me there is nothing better than going back through these pages and remembering the stories and the younger faces. I even often remember what music or TV show I was listening to when I created the page (but I can’t remember why I walked in to the kitchen on some days to save my life).  This hobby of ours is amazing and being able to show off other people’s layouts and memories makes this one of the sweetest gigs ever!!!  On to today’s picks…

My first pick today is #momlife by marnel.  I have to say that I’ve been a huge fan of Ma’s for years and years now.  Her sense of balance and color and fun are always reflected in her layouts and this one totally shows off that skill!  I just love the pink repeating circles with the arrows.  The large black butterfly cut out really grounds the journal card and photo in the middle.  And then all the paint spatter fills in the space, but also goes with what she’s saying in that mom life is chaotic and scattered.  The whole page seems to reflect her topic/theme and that is what makes this so amazing!   I love every little bit she put on there!

The next layout I’d like to highlight is this one titled All Who Wander Are Not Lost  by Jenn33199.  The first thing about this layout that caught my eye were the warm yellow tones.  Then I took a closer look.  I just love how she edited her photos to match the black lines in the background photo – what a brilliant idea!  This gives the whole layout a cohesive and artistic look that I just love!  I also really like her choice for embellishments.  The flowers aren’t too heavy even with the heavy metal frame – it feels light.  The addition of the word art makes this page feel complete. I love that she not only used word strips but also used word art in the lower right to balance the page!

My third choice for today is Once In A Lifetime by DivaMom96.  At first I was drawn in with the blending.  The flowers on the left side mixed with the photo on the right. When I zoomed in for a better look I realized how the pink flowers on the left mimic the pink flowers on the building.  This looks like a place I would love to visit so I had to read more.  The journal card tells a wonderful story about why this building and this trip is significant to the scrapper (if you click through to her layout you can read her journaling in her comments).  The little bits of lace and washi with the arrow and the stamp – are so perfectly delicate and balanced as to not over power the card and the story – I just love that!!

This next layout called out to me because it’s so fun and fits with my own personal scrapping style.   Playful by  IntenseMagic is simple but so fun! I just love the different colored blocks matched with just little bit of flowers.  The title on the photo is perfectly spaced to fill in some dead space on the photo.  Then the word strips are the perfect color pop and carry your eye down the page.  Finally the journaling up and down the sides is so awesome!  It tells the story but doesn’t intrude on the design.  Such a clean but fun page!

Looking through the galleries I couldn’t help but pick this next layout titled Shine Like the Stars by Carrie1977.  This layout is stunning! The dark background with the amazing cluster of flowers is striking. Then you mix in all the little details.  The stitched on triangle at the top that is rustic and grungy.  Then the black and white photo – so perfect for this because it really draws in your eye with all the other colors!  Finally all the gold elements and paint full the whole layout together.  What a sweet page and stunning page!

My final layout pick for today is this beautiful layout called Winter Wonderland by conniemiles.    I was draw in by the mix of the purple and the yellow.  When I came in closer I became totally in awe of the blending and detail on this page!  I love the duplicate photo here – it really draws in your eye and the soft colors compliment the bolder colors in the photo.  That upper  and lower clusters are just amazing!  The mix of snowflakes and flowers with the paper strips looks so soft and pretty together!  Finally the story, I loved being able to read why this page was worth scrapping. Who are these people and what’s going on – well I’m not going to spoil it for you – go read the journaling for yourself. But I love that the artist adding the journaling to tell more of the story, otherwise I would have thought this was just a really nice posed photo…this afterall is why we scrap, right? To remember.

I hope these selections inspired you to create some wonderful pages this week – complete with the story and the feelings.  Have a great week everyone!
