I know it’s not summer everywhere but the galleries are overflowing with bright, happy, summery pages. As always there is a good mix of styles and themes which I hope to share with you. It’s Beatrice on the blog and here are my picks for today.
Sanibel Island by CherylnDesigns
Using a large photo for the background of a layout is one of my favorite techniques. The painted border is the perfect frame. I like the paper block and torn piece stitched down behind the photos. The bits of paint and triangle scatter complete the page flawlessly.
It can be a challenge to use such busy background paper effectively but this artist has made it work. I like the way the journal tab is slightly offset from the photo. The diagonal cluster moves the eye down and across the page while the banner ties everything together. I like the messy stitching and tabs behind which serve as a backdrop for the photo and embellishments.
This monochromatic layout is just gorgeous. I like the sketchy look and partial framing. Adding the gesso, especially to the top of the tree, gives the page so much dimension; it makes the viewer wish to reach out and touch it. The title work is very effective given the photo of the steps leading both up and down.
This layout artist is known for her amazing white space pages and outstanding shadowing technique. I like the paper stacking behind the sweet photo. I like the way she included the labels in her stack as well as the frame and doily. The bits of paint support the horizontal design. The small border across the bottom of the page finishes it off just right.
As a digital scrapper I imagine there are many techniques more easily achieved digitally than by paper and other physical supplies. This paper page really jumped out of the gallery for me. I like the bold title letters and the stitched outlines. The varied patterned papers used to fill the letters coordinate so well. The ombre background paper with paint both spattered and used to demark the rays of the sun is the ideal background. The added stickers and acrylic elements are the perfect finishing touches.
Good Times Crazy Friends by Scraptious
I debated whether or not choosing this page would reflect my personal bias but I decided it was worthy in both content and design. I like the diagonally split page design and the way the paper and lace are bound with a butterfly on one end and a sweet cluster on the other. I like the photo of the face partially blended with the patterned paper and the way the bead scatter appears as tears. Adding a few well-chosen word bits to the journaling is a clever technique. Rest in peace Kim and I know I can speak on behalf of the team and say we will never forget The Digichick.
